The PROJECT sessions

Becoming a parent comes with questions. Lots and Lots of questions. If you would like a space to explore a specific issue related to the perinatal period, drawing on psychological theory and evidence, then these sessions could be for you. At The Hudson Project we understand that the wealth of information available to the modern parent can be overwhelming. These sessions aim to provide concise, but helpful, information which is tailored to your specific question. But always related to evidence-based psychological theory.

At the Hudson Project we know that every family is different and will encounter different challenges, but some examples of topics may include, experiencing burn-out, navigating a period of transition, thinking of the dynamics of a relationship or returning to work.

The PROJECT sessions are a three-session package in which we use psychological theory to explore a key issue. The focus of these sessions are ‘the issue’ and thinking about how you can make sense of it using Evidence-Based Psychological Models. Clinical Psychologists are trained in ‘Formulation’ – this is a process of ‘making sense’ of an issue, understanding why it is occurring and also exploring what may be keeping it going. We use this technique as part of our psychological intervention work, however, this part of our work can be really helpful in supporting people to work through a tricky problem on their own. Parenting doesn’t come with an instruction manual and if you have an issue that you would like to explore within a non-judgemental space, The Project Sessions may be for you.

Session 1

We would think about the issue in a friendly and non-judgemental way. This will include the difficulties associated with it and how it is impacting on you in the present day. During this session we will work together to develop a specific question that you would like answered and this question will be the focus of your package.

Session 2

You will be presented with a bespoke package of information which we will use to think about the issue in relation to Psychological Theories of Intervention. We will spend time making sense of this and building an understanding of ways in which you can move forward, equipt with this information. You will also be given the package in writing so that you can return to it at a later date.

Session 3

The following month we will meet to review how things have gone, reflect on what is working and think about further changes that may be helpful in the future.
