Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy

Starting therapy can be daunting. At the Hudson Project we know this and we also understand the complicated mix of emotions that becoming a parent can bring.

We offer a friendly, non-judgemental, space to explore these emotions. All tailored to your individual needs, whatever your family looks like.

Parenting is hard and we all need some extra support sometimes. We are here to offer individual therapy sessions with a qualified HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. This means that we can tailor the type of evidence-based intervention that we use to your experiences and your goals, because life rarely fits into a box!

How we can help

Assessment

Starting therapy is a big step and we understand that it can be daunting. Assessment sessions are all about getting to know you. I will ask you about your story, what brings you to therapy and what you would like to change. We believe that it is important that you feel comfortable and in control about what you share as you start working with any therapist. Together we will develop goals for the therapy and start to think about how we can work towards this change.

Formulation

During Formulation sessions we start to ‘make sense’ of your story. We will think about why you are experiencing these symptoms and what is maintaining them. We explore these sessions at your own pace to create a shared understanding of your experiences. Not only do these sessions help us to understand but they also give us lots of helpful information to develop an intervention plan together.

Intervention

Our intervention plans will be unique to you, drawing on evidence-based psychological theory. Clinical Psychologists train in multiple therapeutic models which means that we can tailor the intervention to meet your needs, your difficulties and your goals – rather than the other way around. This may involve using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Preparing to end

We understand that coming to the end of therapy can be daunting. We will develop an ending plan which is right for you, giving you the balance of feeling supported, whilst also having the space to test out newly developed skills and understanding. We will work with you to end at a time that feels right.

Breathe….We’ve got this.

The PROJECT sessions

You may be reading this and thinking that i.e. ‘I’m not sure therapy is right for me, right now’. If you have a specific issue, related to the perinatal period (this encompasses pregnancy and the two years post-delivery), that you would like to make sense of using evidence-based psychological models then The Project Sessions may be for you. Examples include, your struggle with feeling burnt-out, needing support with returning to work, or needing a space to consider welcoming a sibling into the family. Click here to explore further….
