FAQs
Why a Clinical Psychologist?
Clinical Psychologists are trained to use multiple therapeutic models and to develop treatment plans which draw on these models in the most helpful way for the client. This means that we can fit the treatment plan to the client, rather than trying to fit the client’s needs to a specific model. There are many options for therapy out there but the term Clinical Psychologist is protected by the HCPC – this means that a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist will have completed a doctoral level of training and will need to maintain these skills in order to remain professionally registered.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 60 minutes in length. Occasionally they may need to be longer or shorter for therapeutic reasons but this would always be discussed with you beforehand.
How many sessions will I need?
Every therapy journey is different but typically people will need between 8 and 20 sessions of individual therapy.
Where are you based?
Most sessions will be conducted online. There may also be the option to meet for face-to-face sessions in the Uttlesford area of Essex – please contact to discuss options.
How do you choose which intervention is right for me?
We would work together to develop an intervention plan. Initially we would meet for an assessment session. This would be followed by ‘making sense’ of your difficulties in our formulation sessions. It is this understanding that will help us to develop an intervention plan. We will consider the current evidence bases, your individual situation and your own preferences for a way of working.
What happens if I need to cancel?
We understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel a session then please let us know 24 hours before and we will be happy to rearrange the session. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled time will be charged at the standard hourly rate.
Can I pay using private medical insurance?
Yes, we are currently building links with some of the major health insurance providers. Please contact us for further information.
I am in a crisis, what should I do?
Due to the nature of the work, our email is not constantly monitored. Equally, due to the nature of the service, we are not able to offer intervention for individuals during a mental health crisis, where a more in-depth multi-disciplinary team approach would be more helpful.
